Welcome to Active Gloucestershire.

Active Gloucestershire is an independent charity with a vision for everyone in Gloucestershire to be active everyday.

We have a key responsibility for increasing physical activity levels across Gloucestershire and are an agent of change, uniting individuals and a huge range of national policy makers and organisations around one of the greatest challenges facing our society today: inactivity.

We want to inspire, connect and enable people in Gloucestershire to get active in a way that works for them, and we want to support those who can help others move more, like activity providers, sports clubs and key partners in the county. We do this through we can move – Gloucestershire’s social movement that brings people together from across the sports and physical activity sector, public sector of voluntary and community sector.

We all work together to help people benefit from a more active lifestyle.

We can move

Co-ordinated by Active Gloucestershire, we can move is a social movement designed to get more people active in the county.

  • About us

Being active should be normal and easy. We look at barriers to being active and use campaigns to encourage people to try something new. We ask people to spot things that need to change and highlight their achievements so that they can inspire and be a champion to others.

  • Our impact

Our work develops by learning from what has and hasn’t worked before. We use independent research, and commission our own. We listen to people and organisations in the county. Our aim is to have a real and measurable impact on the lives of people in Gloucestershire.

  • Our team

Let’s talk! We work with many groups and organisations across Gloucestershire, from schools to networks that support older adults. We also do valuable work helping find funding and assist people and organisaations to change where they live, so that more people can be active.

Opening School Facilities – The Bike Library🎬We visited Yorkley Primary School – one half of The Forest of Dean Community Schools Federation to explore how they’ve made cycling an integral part of everyday school life. Learn how increasing access to bikes has transformed the school community, from more children travelling by Active Travel to a growing number enjoying the off-road trail network right on their doorstep. This film uncovers: ✅ What it takes to set up a project like this ✅ The positive impact on pupils, families, and the wider community ✅ How other schools can replicate this successful model Whether you’re a teacher, parent, or community leader, this video is packed with insight into how cycling can create lasting change, both in and beyond the classroom😄To watch the full video, head to the link in our bio and click on our YouTube👇#ActiveGloucestershire #WeCanMove #ActiveTravel #CyclingInSchools #ForestOfDean #CommunitySchools #OpeningSchoolFacilities  #SchoolCycling See MoreSee Less

Our colleagues Kirsty and Geetha recently attended the Lives of colour of Colour Black History Month celebration – a wonderful evening, brimming with thought-provoking conversation, powerful reflections and some amazing new connections. In honour of this year’s theme, ‘Standing Firm in Power and Pride’ we learnt more about the history of Lives of Colour, their mission and motivation and some of their incredible projects – including ‘Swimmers of Colour’ – a project that provides ethnically and culturally diverse communities with safe, inclusive and empowering aquatic experiences. We also met some fantastic local diversity champions like Lydia Heywood, a passionate young changemaker working to make equestrian sport more inclusive and accessible for ethnically diverse communities.Black History Month gives us all the opportunity to share, celebrate and understand the remarkable impact of Black heritage and culture on our country and beyond. However, as Florence so rightly reminded us, Black history shouldn’t just something we recognise for a few weeks. The people, stories and dialogue we celebrate throughout October deserve to be recognised and discussed every day.At Active Gloucestershire, we remain committed to being an anti-racist organisation. We’ll continue to learn and develop our understanding of what it means to be anti-racist, explore allyship in practice, strive for better representation and convene spaces for ethnically diverse communities to feel seen and heard. We know there is so much more to do – more challenges to face and more triumphs to celebrate. However, only by working in partnership with others – by pooling our strengths, knowledge and resources, will we drive change and create a fairer and more equitable society.#ActiveGloucestershire #WeCanMove #JoinTheMovement #BlackHistoryMonth See MoreSee Less
